Field of Dreams (1989)

When a man hears a voice in Iowa, he decides to build a baseball field in his corn.   Is he crazy or is there more to the voices than there seems?

Field of Dreams is a great film, an American classic.  Thanks to Universal’s 100th anniversary, we get this great blu-ray re-release.  Field of Dreams is rated # 6 on the American Film Institute’s (AFI) Top 100 Fantasy Films.

There really isn’t much to say about the movie that hasn’t been said before.  The only thing I can say is that if you haven’t seen it, come out from under that rock you have been living under, and see this.   The performances are brilliant from the top down.  Kevin Costner has never been better, and James Earl Jones is spectacular.  While I am not a big fan of Ray Liotta, he turns in an inspired performance as ‘Shoeless’ Joe Jackson.

This package comes with a blu-ray, dvd, and digital copy so there is no reason not to pick this up.

The video quality is pretty decent, but they could have spent a little bit of time cleaning up some of the scenes.  I noticed a couple scenes that were grainy and didn’t seem to have been remastered.  There really was nothing that would distract you from the film, but a couple spots could have been a little better cleaned up.

The audio was well done for this film, but this is a quiet little film, so don’t expect a huge whopping 5.1 audio mix.  The sounds are subtle and nice for this kind of movie.

The special features are recycled from previous releases.  There is really nothing new here, but the features are not why I purchased this disc.

Overall, if you haven’t seen this or are looking for a great film to add to your collection, this is the movie for you.  Thanks to Universal’s 100th Anniversary the price is reasonable as well.  You get all three current formats as well, so there is no reason not to pick this up.
