Movie Ruminations

The Girl who Played with Fire delayed

For those of you who have been looking forward to the sequel to the American The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who Played with Fire, you are going to have to wait a bit longer.  Originally announced to be released late 2013, Sony has pushed the film back to allow the screenwriter, Stephen Zaillian, time to crack the script.  Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara are still attached.

David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club) is not as yet attached as director, but it is entirely possible he will return for the sequel.

I have an idea.  If you are waiting with bated breath for this one, I would recommend checking out the original Swedish film.  All three films are available now, and the original Swedish The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is much, much better than the American remake.  While I wasn’t as big a fan of The Girl who Played with Fire or The Girl who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, they are both worth watching to see the glory that is Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander.  While Rooney Mara did a great job, Rapace owns the role.
