TV ruminations and news

Marvel Universe television show gets greenlight from ABC

Earlier this month it was announced that Joss Whedon (The Avengers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) would be heading up the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it was announced that a television show would be part of the package.  Today, Deadline is reporting that the pilot, centered around S.H.I.E.L.D. will start immediately.  ABC has picked it up, which is no surprise seeing as they are owned by Disney.

The really interesting news here, though, is that it will be written by Whedon, his brother Jed, and  Maurissa Tancharoen (Dr. Horrible‘s Sing-A-Long Blog).  That’s good news, but even better is that Whedon is also set to direct the pilot.

While this is just for a pilot, not a series, I cannot see this not being picked up for series.  So, when it was announced that Whedon was running Marvel’s forays across the moving picture world, I never expected that he would be this involved . . .This is awesome news, and I will keep you posted as more info surfaces.
