Schwarzenegger to return to famous role of Conan

Deadline is reporting that Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to reprise one of his most famous roles, that of Conan in the second reboot of the franchise, The Legend of Conan.  Fredrik Malmberg, CEO of Paradox Entertainment, which owns the rights to the Conan character, had this to say:

“The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make.  It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle.”

Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Bullet to the Head) last played Conan in the most recent reboot, Conan the Barbarian.  There are no plans for him to return.

While this is great news, I am a little disheartened to hear that Momoa will not be given another shot at the character.  While his Conan the Barbarian was not a great film by any stretch of the imagination, I really did like the way he played the character.  But how can you be upset to have Schwarzenegger return to the role that made him famous?

    • Avoid Conan the Destroyer. Or any movie that has Grace Jones and Wilt Chamberlain in it . . .

Conan the Barbarian is pretty sweet, though. The remake was halfway decent, too. Both are pretty gory.
