Movie Ruminations

Joseph Gordon-Levitt to don the cowl for Justice League movie?

If you have seen The Dark Knight Rises this news may not come as a big shock.  If you have not seen it yet, you may want to stop reading this right now.  I’ll give you a second to vacate . . .

Ok, I’m back.  It is being reported by Drew McWeeny of HitFix that Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises) will be taking on the mantle of the bat for the upcoming Justice League film.  His sources have said that Gordon-Levitt will definitely don the cape and cowl.  And possibly sooner than the Justice League film.  Rumor has it that he will have a brief end credits scene in next summer’s Man of Steel.

As you know, if you have seen The Dark Knight Rises, Gordon-Levitt’s character  is guided by Bruce Wayne to the Batcave to take up the mantle of the bat.  That film ends on the note that Gordon-Levitt’s character will either become Robin or Batman.  (His real name in the film is Robin.)

While we were hearing all summer about how The Dark Knight Rises was the end to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, it seems that Warner Bros. is attempting to keep the series alive in some way.  To switch to a different Batman in the same universe makes sense.  Sure, it won’t be Bruce Wayne, but to my way of thinking, that’s alright.  JGL is a great actor and getting him to suit up as a different variation of Batman is a stroke of genius.  Hopefully this will all work out and we will have another brilliant actor playing Batman in the near future.
