In Memoriam: “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott

Dimebag-Darrell-AbbottBorn Darrell Lance Abbott August 20, 1966 in Ennis, Texas.

Died December 8, 2004 in Columbus, Ohio.

“Dimebag” Darrell Abbott was the guitarist for the bands Pantera and Damageplan.  On December 8, 2004, he was murdered while onstage with his band Damageplan.  Abbott was shot three times in the head.

Widely regarded as one of the best and most influential guitar players in the world, Dimebag was a man who is still revered to this day.  Whether you are a fan of heavy metal or not, odds are that you have heard his name and the reverence it entails from people around the world.

I was fortunate enough to see Dime play at least four times while Pantera was touring.  The last time was on Ozzfest right before Pantera broke up.  His stage presence was electrifying and his playing was metal magic.  He is and will be missed forever.  Lets all send out good vibes to his family tonight and wish them all the best.  He is not forgotten.
