The casting process has begun on the bastardization of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. Fist off, the film will be called Ninja Turtles, and they will be aliens. Yep. Aliens. Not teenage or mutant. Just aliens.
Last year when this was announced, the geek community (myself included) were furious with producer Michael Bay (Armageddon, Transformers) and director Johnathon Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles, Wrath of the Titans). Not much has changed in the year or so since the news broke. The film was pushed back due to script problems, but now they are beginning casting on the film, so it seems we will see this monstrosity soon.
First off, they have cast April O’Neal. Megan Fox (Jennifer’s Body, Transformers) will be playing the intrepid journalist who is friends with the turtles.
I actually like this casting. Sure, Megan Fox is VERY easy on the eyes, but she’s not a completely terrible actress, either. I think she will do fine with the role. Hell, if Liebesman can make Sam Wentworth slightly charismatic, he should have no problems with Fox.
Second, Raphael has been cast in the film as well. He will be played by Alan Ritchson. He was Arthur Curry/Aquaman on Smallville and will be seen later this year in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
The turtles in the film will all be mo-capped, so we will only be seeing him CGI’d over. Honestly, I have no opinion on this guy. He could be awesome or he could suck. Just seems kind of strange that they would cast a (mostly) no name for the hardest turtle to play right. Raphael is the broody, moody turtle and without some acting chops behind him he could turn into an emo, and that is NOT what we want.
