Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake pushed back

oldboy posterOn July 20, 2013, I posted the trailer for Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake, which looks phenomenal.  Now comes this Tweet:

There is no explanation given for the move, but it can be assumed that there are a couple reasons.  One, FilmDistrict has high hopes for the film and is positioning it for Oscar consideration.  Two, it is being moved to get away from competition targeted for the same demographic.  Ridley Scott’s The Counselor and the new Jackass film, Bad Grandpa, are releasing the same week, both of which are going for the same male audience.  Odds are that FilmDistrict is moving the film to avoid competition and make more Benjamins.
