The rumor has been going around for awhile that Elizabeth Olsen (Silent House, Martha Marcy May Marlene) was up for the role of the Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age of Ultron. There has been no announcement from Marvel regarding the casting. Well, Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) has let it slip in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that Elizabeth Olsen has been cast. Here is what was said:
I don’t think we begin shooting before March of next year,’ Jackson said of The Avengers: Age of Ultron, the next film to begin shooting in the Marvel universe. ‘I know we’re shooting in London, that James Spader is Ultron and going to be the bad guy, and that we added Ms. [Elizabeth] Olsen [who will play the Scarlet Witch], but I don’t know what she’s doing, if she’s on the inside or the outside. I haven’t seen a script.
While Marvel hasn’t made any announcement outside of the casting of James Spader as Ultron, this is pretty much as close as we can get to official confirmation without the Marvel press release.
I think Elizabeth Olsen is an amazing actress. Her roles in Silent House and Martha Marcy May Marlene were nothing short of brilliant, even though the films themselves didn’t strive as hard as her acting. I was not a fan of either of the films (click here to read my review of Martha Marcy May Marlene), but she was astounding. I am really liking the idea of her in the next Avengers film.
