TV ruminations and news

From Dusk Till Dawn: The TV series!?

from-dusk-till-dawnOk, so I just found out that this is not new news.  This has been floating around the interwebs for six months or so, but I am just finding out about it thanks to the casting of Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgement Day, From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money).

Ok, so here’s the skinny.  It seems that Robert Rodriguez (Machete, From Dusk Till Dawn) is launching a cable channel called El Rey next month and the first scripted series for the channel is going to be From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, which will air in early 2014.

Robert Patrick will be playing Jacob Fuller, famously played by Harvey Keitel in the film.  Madison Davenport will be playing Kate (originally played by Juliette Lewis) and Brandon Soo Hoo will be playing Scott.  Also among the cast are Eiza Gonzalez as Santanico Pandemonium, who was originally played by Salma Hayek.  These newly announced actors join the previously announced D. J. Cotrona (G. I. Joe: Retaliation) as Seth Gecko, Zane Holtz as Richie Gecko, and Don Johnson (Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Manas Sheriff Earl McGraw.  The Seth gecko role was originally played by George Clooney and Richie was played by Quentin Tarantino.

As you can see from the character names above, these are the same names from the film.  Essentially, the series follows the same story of the film, just filling in blanks about the Mesoamerican vampires and the back stories of the characters.

I loved the original film and cannot wait to see how this series is.  Rodriguez is directing the first two episodes of the 10 episode season and I am officially geeked about it.

From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series will premiere in the first part of next year on the El Rey channel, which launches next month.
