After a joke on Twitter, this story went viral. For years, some fans of Doctor Who have been clamoring for a female Doctor. So far, the show runners have resisted that fan outcry and have strictly kept the Doctor a male, of varying ages. Now, a big name has thrown their hat in the ring by saying they want to be the Doctor. Hayley Atwell.
Who is that, you ask? Well, you may know her from such Marvel films as Captain America: The First Avenger and a brief appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Or how about her stint on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D or her own series, Agent Carter. Yep, she’s a Marvel girl.
During a random Twitter Q&A, there was this exchange below. Granted, it’s not much and it has to be assumed it is a joke. Of course, the Doctor Who show runners better jump on this and try to lock her down, especially if she was even somewhat serious. This could be a big deal for the show.
I would in no way be adverse to her taking on the role of the Doctor. I’ve been thinking there should be a female Doctor anyway. Not that there is anything wrong with the male leads, and I actually like the dark and crazy Peter Capaldi, but maybe it is time to give a woman a shot. If so, why not Agent Carter herself? We already know she can be badass . . .
